Tax Lot


A record of the details of a purchase or acquisition of a security. For a trader or investor, tax lots are used to record cost basis details for the positions taken or held. Each purchase/ acquisition of a security on a different date or for a different price represents a new tax lot. For a trader/ investor, tax lots provide information as to different purchases/ acquisitions of a given security during a given period of time.
